Secondary Education Major: Spanish

Ignite your passion for Spanish culture, language, and teaching.

As the second most spoken language in the U.S., Spanish is not just a valuable skill – it’s essential for the next generation. With a growing number of native Spanish speakers, projections suggest that within three decades, up to 30 percent of the U.S. population will be Hispanic.

Our Spanish licensure program within the secondary education major equips you to teach Spanish and culture to students in grades K-12.

Grounded in experiential learning, our program at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota ensures mastery of the language and provides insights into the diverse cultures and communities where Spanish is spoken. Delve into the history and literature of the Spanish-speaking world, spanning medieval Spanish to 18th-century Latin American literature.

Take your knowledge beyond the classroom through study abroad or domestic arranged experiences. These opportunities not only enhance your language skills but also cultivate an appreciation and understanding of other cultures. Explore our cultural immersion programs in Argentina, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Spain, or within the U.S.

Embark on your journey to teach Spanish by joining us at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and help prepare the next generation for the future. Discover your personal best approach to teaching, respecting the unique needs, capabilities, and potential of every student. Students will be empowered and inspired. Because of you.
