Last week, Todd Reinhart, Sc.D., dean of sciences and health professions, informed me he has decided to conclude his service at Saint Mary’s at the end of this fiscal year, May 31, 2021. We wish him the best in the next chapter of his life and thank him for his years of dedicated service. Dr. Reinhart said, “Serving the faculty, staff, and students at Saint Mary’s has been one of the greatest and most humbling honors of my career. I will be ever grateful for the opportunity Saint Mary’s provided for me to learn, grow, and serve. There will always be a special and warm place in my heart for Saint Mary’s, particularly the people and treasured relationships I have developed.”
Dr. Reinhart came to Saint Mary’s in 2015, and during his tenure, Saint Mary’s has seen tremendous growth in the sciences, including the Physician Assistant Program with Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences, the new B.S. in Nursing, the renovation of the Adducci Science Center’s Hoffman and Brother Charles Halls, the completion of the Science and Learning Center, and a successful and expanding suite of graduate healthcare programs. Dr. Reinhart also was instrumental in the summer regenerative medicine program and grant funding.
When Dr. Reinhart began at Saint Mary’s, he said one component he brought to the position was the desire to expand opportunities for students and faculty to engage in basic and applied research, both in the sciences and the health professions. He said, “Preparing graduate and undergraduate students to contribute toward improving the world, and helping us face societal challenges of today and of tomorrow, has been at the center of my work.” We’re grateful for all he has done to advance Saint Mary’s University in these areas.
We will begin preparing for a national search for his replacement. In the interim, Susan Jarosek, M.Ed., assistant dean in the Graduate School of Health and Human Services, will serve as interim dean, a position she held in 2015, prior to Dr. Reinhart’s arrival. Moni Berg-Binder, Ph.D., associate dean of sciences, will report directly to Susan Cosby Ronnenberg, Ph.D., dean of the College.
