Saint Mary’s senior Bailey Johnson juggles her time between her double major of marketing and business intelligence and analytics, playing softball, and serving as a high school referee.
Also important to her is maintaining good grades.
“I think it’s important to be a good student as well as a good athlete,” she said. “Performing well in the classroom leads to performing well as an athlete too because you’re structuring yourself. You’re scheduling workouts, practice, games, classes, and studying. You have to stay motivated and work hard.”
Johnson loves being on the Cardinal softball team. “Coach Tschida is an amazing coach, and we’re all such a close community,” she said. Beyond softball, Johnson shares her love for sports with others, serving as the youngest certified official for the Minnesota State High School League for both volleyball and basketball — working with third graders through high-school seniors.
She’s also coached youth sports, where she enjoys watching young athletes improve and says it’s important to teach them how to lose, as well as how to win.
It’s no surprise that Johnson chose to major in marketing because she enjoys interacting with people and the sales aspect; she chose business intelligence and analytics because she loves the versatility of the major.
“Saint Mary’s was one of the first campuses I toured when I was looking to transfer from a two-year university,” she said. “The campus is gorgeous and the classrooms are modern. Additionally professors are there to see you succeed. They want to see you successful in the classroom and all aspects of your life.”
