Mathematical Sciences Major: Mathematics Track

Math: The bedrock on which all sciences are built. The foundation for your future.

Do you have an affinity for mathematics or solving complex problems? Have you always wanted to share your passion with a classroom of your own?

Within our mathematical science major, our mathematics track aims to demonstrate the precision, beauty, and power of mathematics and statistics. This puts you on the right trajectory if you’re interested in pursuing a career in engineering, actuarial science, or even considering graduate school.

At Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, our mathematics track is also designed for students majoring in secondary education with a mathematics licensure focus. While pursuing a double major in mathematics and secondary education is optional, this track offers an in-depth exploration and prepares you to teach grades 5-12 as a middle school or high school math teacher.

Studying mathematics fosters analytic skills with a mindset to match. It teaches you to consider all the assumptions within a specific problem or situation and how to deconstruct complex problems into manageable action steps. All of this demonstrates to prospective employers and graduate admissions that you have what it takes to understand analytical solutions — making you an ideal candidate for what’s next in your future.

Our dedicated faculty are committed to supporting you every step of the way. You’ll engage in hands-on learning experiences to round out theories with real-world insights, empowering you to confidently lead your own classroom, pursue graduate studies, or launch your career with the ability to apply your skills immediately.

At Saint Mary’s, our teaching rests on a foundation of Lasallian Catholic values. We provide a quality education rooted in service, inclusivity, and respect for others. Here, you’ll learn to incorporate them into your professional and personal life.

Take your love for the power of mathematics to places you’ve never thought possible. Start at Saint Mary’s to foster your passion and turn it into a lifelong career.
