Computer Science Major

Fact #1: Computers are everywhere. Fact #2: You can go anywhere.

Computers have changed our lives beyond imagination — predicting hurricanes, detecting Alzheimer’s disease, and allowing you to video chat with someone across the globe. They will continue to shape the world, requiring highly-trained and skilled professionals to understand computer programs and hardware, programming languages, networking and server security, software and web development, as well as the latest advances in computer technology and equipment.

Four Different Tracks

Choose a computer science track and stand out with a specific skill set:

  • The world’s most valuable resource: data.1 And it’s growing by the second. In fact, two-and-a-half-quintillion bytes of data are created daily — that’s 2.5 followed by 18 zeros!2
This means one thing: cybersecurity professionals are needed now more than ever. Security is crucial for businesses, consumers, and the government to protect systems from cyber threats and attacks. Gain the skills to protect valuable data assets and anticipate and avoid threats to data integrity by learning the tools and systems used to monitor, mitigate, and prevent online threats. You’ll graduate with a degree that is just as valuable as data itself.

  • Data drives decisions — powering our daily lives and impacting businesses of every type and size. When stakeholders need answers, they rely on data. With a dynamic focus on data analytics and programming skills, pursue various careers across multiple industries and enter a plethora of data-driven fields.

This track emphasizes applications of data analysis, business forecasting, modeling, operations management, market analysis, and project management techniques. You’ll learn programming and information technology skills to provide information for decision support systems.

  • Management information systems (MIS) equips you with knowledge of information technology, management techniques, and organizational development. The curriculum prepares you for a career developing and supporting business processes using information systems, emphasizing methods, concepts, and practical applications. You’ll gain an integrated skill set with a deep understanding of how technology fits within any company or organization.

  • To be proficient in core programming skills and project-based software development, you need an education with an emphasis on both to become a sought-after designer. You’ll develop the know-how of critical information technology skills to construct quality software.

Gain data analysis skills from multiple perspectives and technologies, while learning technology’s scientific, cultural, and political role in our global society.
