Biology Major: Pre-Medical Imaging Track

Offer a window into life-saving diagnoses with unparalleled hospital experience.

Picture yourself helping patients affected by heart disease, performing X-rays, or capturing ultrasound images of vital organs while working for the leading hospital in the nation. Our pre-medical imaging track, part of our biology major, prepares you with the expertise to perform high-demand diagnostic imaging procedures to assist doctors in diagnosing diseases and injuries.

Our program’s educational collaboration with Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences means you’ll acquire the competitive edge to work for Mayo Clinic, where numerous program graduates are currently employed.

Begin your journey at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, where you’ll study on our Winona Campus for two years, completing general education requirements and pre-requisite courses. Upon successful completion of this study, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a 21-month internship at Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences in Rochester, Minnesota.

You’ll choose one of three emphases of study: echocardiography, radiography, or sonography. Whether you choose the echocardiography emphasis — examining the heart and cardiovascular system using diagnostic ultrasonography, or the radiography emphasis—taking X-rays and other medical images — you’ll gain the confidence and skillset to proficiently conduct these imaging procedures. With the sonography emphasis, you’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to perform and analyze ultrasound images by utilizing high-frequency sound waves for procedures that go beyond obstetrics.

Grounded in our Lasallian Catholic heritage, we’ll help you develop and enhance virtues like patience, generosity, and enthusiasm which are essential in helping patients live better, healthier lives.

We’re here to prepare you for more than just a career; we’re here to empower you to live a life of ethics, service, and leadership. At Saint Mary’s, our mission is to guide you as you go from making a living to making a life. One that will change the world for the better.
